<GRID_OS_PASSWORD> and <ASM_PASSWORD> are placeholders for the values typed into the installer. The answers given to the graphical installer of Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.4, screen by screen, as my working notes record them. The installer has no configuration file to show; this listing is the configuration.

| Screen | Remark |
|---|---|
| Grid Plug and Play | The cluster name must not contain certain characters, the hyphen among them; a single word is the safest choice. oradb-scan resolves to 10.30.10.31, 10.30.10.32 and 10.30.10.33 in DNS |
| Cluster Node Information | The virtual hostnames resolve to 10.30.10.21 and 10.30.10.22 |
| SSH Connectivity | The key pairs of grid were generated on both nodes during the preparation; the installer distributes the public keys and tests the logins |
| Network Interface Usage | eth3 appears twice because the interconnect address is the alias eth3:INT on the management interface. eth2 was first meant for the interconnect and is unused |
| Create ASM Disk Group | ORCL:ASMDISK1 is the ASMLib disk on the LUN ORADB-CRS; the disk group holds the cluster registry and the voting file |
| Operating System Groups | OSOPER for ASM is set to oinstall; no separate operator group was created |
| Installation Location | The software location is beside the Oracle base of grid, not below it |
| Prerequisite Checks | The notes contradict themselves: the heading says the checks stayed "Failed", the text says every prerequisite is met. The root.sh output of the first attempt contains "User ignored Prerequisites during installation" |
| Installation | The last two lines are not fields of the installer but what its dialogue asks for. The paths are those of the commands in the notes. The output of orainstRoot.sh that the notes keep is not in this document; it is in Grid Infrastructure installation |
The interface table is the one the notes record, and it shows the network after the interconnect had been moved to eth3:INT. The installer was run more than once, see Grid patches and the multicast problem; the notes keep one answer set.
Checked against Oracle Grid Infrastructure 26ai
| As built | Today |
|---|---|
./runInstaller from the unpacked grid media | Since 12.2 the Grid home is an image extracted into the new home; the wizard is gridSetup.sh |
| "Install and Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster", advanced installation | 26ai offers a deployment "to manage Oracle RAC databases"; Domain Services Clusters, Member Clusters and Flex Cluster leaf nodes are desupported |
| Cluster name without a hyphen | The current rule: alphanumeric, hyphens allowed, underscores not allowed, at most 15 characters |
| SCAN with three addresses in DNS, port 1521 | Unchanged recommendation of three round-robin addresses; 26ai adds that the SCAN is optional for most deployments and must resolve to at least one address |
| GNS not configured | Still optional; Shared GNS is desupported and Highly Available GNS deprecated in 26ai |
| SSH setup with the existing keys | The automatic setup creates and uses RSA keys, in 11.2 and in 26ai |
eth3 with two subnets, one of them "Private" | "Each NIC can be configured to perform only one of the following roles"; Oracle strongly recommends a physically separate private network |
Disk group OCR, external redundancy, one disk of about 1 GB | External redundancy still means one voting file and one OCR without copies; the minimum size is 2 GB in 26ai |
| No IPMI | The option is unchanged |
| Root scripts run by hand | The installer can run the configuration scripts itself with root or sudo credentials |
The answers describe a kind of installation that Oracle Database 11.2 allowed and current releases do not: Release 11.2 left Extended Support in December 2020, and RAC is not supported in Standard Edition 2 from 19c on.
