Oracle RAC - Cluster status checks

category: solutionz · date: 2016-12-31 · updated: 2026-10-02 · author: LALA

Oracle RAC Solution · Config document · referenced from Grid Infrastructure installation

The five crsctl checks run after both root.sh scripts had succeeded, with their output. They show the cluster as it stood before any database software was installed.

CRS-4700: The Cluster Time Synchronization Service is in Observer mode.

CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online

CRS-4533: Event Manager is online
CommandWhat it shows
crsctl check cluster -allCluster Ready Services, Cluster Synchronization Services and the Event Manager are online on both nodes
crsctl status resource -tEvery resource Clusterware manages, with target and state. Local resources run once per node, cluster resources once in the cluster
crsctl check ctssThe Cluster Time Synchronization Service is in observer mode: it found NTP configured on the nodes and leaves the clocks to it
crsctl check cssCluster Synchronization Services of the local node
crsctl check evmEvent Manager of the local node

The resources in the second output:

ResourceWhat it is
ora.LISTENER.lsnrThe node listener, one per node
ora.OCR.dgThe disk group OCR
ora.asmThe ASM instance
ora.gsdGlobal Services Daemon, needed only by Oracle 9i RAC databases; target and state are OFFLINE on purpose
ora.net1.networkThe public network
ora.onsOracle Notification Service
ora.registry.acfsRegistry of ACFS file systems
ora.LISTENER_SCAN1.lsnr to ora.LISTENER_SCAN3.lsnrThe three SCAN listeners
ora.scan1.vip to ora.scan3.vipThe three SCAN addresses
ora.oradb01.vip, ora.oradb02.vipThe node VIPs
ora.cvuCluster Verification Utility, periodic checks
ora.oc4jA Java container used by Clusterware's management features

No database, no database listener on port 1525 and no further disk group is in the list yet; they are added in the later parts.

Checked against Oracle Grid Infrastructure 26ai

As builtToday
crsctl check cluster -all, crsctl status resource -tThe CRSCTL reference is still part of the Clusterware guide
crsctl check ctss, observer modeCTSS is deprecated in 19c and desupported in 26ai; the clocks are checked with cluvfy comp clocksync -n all
ora.gsd offlineExpected in 11.2: GSD is "typically offline" and only enabled for Oracle 9i RAC databases. It does not appear in the 19c and 26ai guides
ora.oc4jThe oc4j noun is deprecated; Quality of Service Management, which it served, is desupported in 26ai
ora.registry.acfsDoes not occur in the 26ai guides
Offline resources"Resources listed as TARGET:OFFLINE and STATE:OFFLINE do not need to be monitored."

Later releases added a management database (the Grid Infrastructure Management Repository) to this list; it is optional for standalone clusters in 19c, deprecated in 21c and desupported in 26ai.
