Oracle RAC Solution · Config document · referenced from Storage and ASM disks

The file system table of a node. The system volumes are as the operating system installation left them; the only addition is the last line, the local volume /data that holds the Oracle software.

# Oracle Install Destination
/dev/mapper/DATA-data /data ext3 nodev,acl,user_xattr 0 0
LineMeaning
/dev/SYSTEM/…the system volume group SYSTEM with separate volumes for /, /home, /tmp, /usr, /var, /var/log, /var/log/audit, /var/tmp and swap, all ext3
/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-…-part1/boot, the only file system outside LVM; the identifier is a made-up value of the right shape
nosuid,nodev,noexechardening options on /home, /var/log, /var/log/audit and /var/tmp; /tmp has nosuid,nodev without noexec
/dev/mapper/DATA-data on /datathe logical volume data in the volume group DATA, 99 GB, ext3
nodev,acl,user_xattr on /datano nosuid and no noexec: the Oracle homes hold executables, some of them setuid
0 0 on /datanot dumped and not checked by fsck at boot, unlike the system volumes with 1 2

The volume behind the last line is created with pvcreate, vgcreate, lvcreate and mkfs.ext3 in Storage and ASM disks. The shared ASM disks do not appear in this file: they carry no file system and are never mounted. The volume group DATA here is local LVM and has nothing to do with the ASM disk group of the same name.

Checked against SLES 15 SP7 and SLES 16.0

As builtToday
ext3 on every volumeStill usable. The separate ext3 driver was removed in Linux 4.3 and the ext4 driver serves ext3 file systems; mkfs.ext3 still exists. On SLES 15 SP7 Btrfs is the default for the operating system and XFS for everything else, and the ext family remains supported, as it does on SLES 16
acl,user_xattrBoth are on by default in the ext4 driver, so the options are redundant
SLES 11 SP3General support ended on 31 January 2016, long-term support on 30 January 2019

The /data line would work unchanged on a current system.
